Magnetic Field Science for the Visually Minded

Magnetic Movie from Semiconductor on Vimeo.

Artists have allways taken charged inspiration from the science of their time. Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt of Semiconductor were artists-in-residence at Space Sciences Laboratory and developed this vis of the chosmic forces all arround us. For those of us who connect quickly with the pictures (those visual learners) this kind of art makes the invisible world tangible.

Butoh-a-Go-Go in Moscow

This is a gorgeous performance. I personaly prefer the slower movement aspect of Butoh that is demonstrated here, and its really awesome when the performaers are fit and skilled enough to do balancing and weight sharing with eachother like these two men do.

This is an asthetic I desire to emulate. thus I coninue my search for a male dance aprtner who is skilled and bold enough to try wired shit like this with me.

Butoh-a-Go-Go World Premiere of The Narthex, 5th International Dance Festival Moscow. Sound lights and choreography by Thomas Anfield and Kevin Bergsma.

Ballet on its Head

If you are not one of the 3.3 million people who have allready watched this it is a must see. My obsession for Cirque Du Soleil not withstanding this rendition of Swan Lake by a Chinese acrobatic ballet company is incredible. I have extreme difficulty just performing a decent tendu, much less flawlessly rotating on point in arabesque on a mans head! Amazing... simply amazing.

Moving, Auburn home show, and Art takes Flight

I'm moving to Sacramento! For the weekend, at least, settling in to my new place while I work a booth at the Auburn Home Show. May 16-18, Auburn, California, I'll be in the Forest Walk section, so if you've been looking for an artist to satisfy your custom desires, please, look no further...than there. :) Plenty of other great home improvement companies setting up there as well, along with a couple other muralists, so please, come out and have a good time! More details at www.auburnhomeshows.com.

Besides that, the Art takes Flight installation in Placerville is going extremely well. For those of you who don't know, I am working with Big Oak Arts to place a set of 9 life-size, trompe l'oeil birds on storefronts around the Broadway strip, along with related quotations and aphorisms from famous artists throughout time; one of my favorites, "What is art, but a way of seeing?" courtesy of Thomas Berger. So far, we have a pygmy owl and a California quail fully installed, with a next wave of a green heron, great white egret, and a Western bluebird going up as early as tomorrow, with all the kinks painted out by the end of the week. Four of these are painted entirely by yours truly, so please, come check them out! The local merchant's group, the Broadway Village Association, is fully sponsoring these, and making a real effort to revitalize the downtown area as well; really, this is a pretty fantastic project, and a harbinger of larger public art to come in Placerville. I will post pictures of these later!

Well, back to packing up my booth for the show. Ciao!

Statuesque!

"The Flare - 1996 Olympics"

"Male Cirque Study"

I had an oportunity last week to see an exhibit of the work of Richard McDonald hosted by the "O" theatre in the Bellagio, Las Vegas. During the moments I lingered staring at the marvelous bronze works inspired by Cirque performers I was quite litterealy moved to tears by the grace and prowess of the sculptures before me. I have never been an avid sculpture aficionado, yet these works lit a fire withing me akin to the phenominal passion and reverance I hold for the performances of Cirque Du Soleil.

I now must find out how to aquire the half million dollars I would need to buy my 5 favorite sculptures of his.
